The project “Strengthening the role of the health mediator in the community healthcare team” (2019–2021), funded by Open Society Foundations, focused on professionalizing and integrating health mediators into the public health system. In the context of the decentralization of community healthcare, SASTIPEN created a Technical Assistance Unit that provided methodological support, legal guidance, and continuous training for mediators and local authorities.
Eighty-five mediators received direct support, while hundreds of people were qualified in the profession, contributing to the expansion of the national network. The organization also took part in drafting the methodological norms of the program and developed practical guides approved by the Ministry of Health. The project strengthened the status of the health mediator as a key actor in facilitating Roma access to medical and social services.
