Advocacy • 2026–2027
The project “Roma Forum Romania – Strengthening the National Roma Coalition for EU Values” is a strategic initiative aimed at consolidating the largest national coalition of Roma and pro-Roma organizations in Romania, brought together under Roma Forum. Implemented between 15 January 2026 and 31 January 2027, the project seeks to strengthen the capacity of Roma civil society to promote European Union values, equality, inclusion, non-discrimination, and democratic participation, while also influencing public policies concerning Roma communities. The project is funded by ERGO Network through the ROVA programme, Roma CSOs promoting EU values.
The initiative builds on the joint expertise of the 28 member organizations of Roma Forum, recognized as a relevant interlocutor for national authorities and European institutions. The project aims to strengthen the coalition’s internal functioning, develop its advocacy capacity, and create effective mechanisms for monitoring public policies aimed at Roma inclusion.
Its main objectives include developing a shared strategic plan, organizing training workshops and mentoring sessions for member organizations, and strengthening cooperation and internal governance. The project also supports monitoring the implementation of the National Strategy for Roma Inclusion and the relevant European framework, resulting in an independent shadow report that reflects the real situation in communities and formulates concrete recommendations.
A central element is the implementation of national advocacy campaigns to combat discrimination and antigypsyism, as well as direct dialogue with public authorities and decision-makers. Activities include consultations, working meetings, position papers, and public events designed to increase the visibility of the challenges faced by Roma communities.
In the long term, the project contributes to the consolidation of a strong and sustainable coalition of Roma organizations capable of participating actively in decision-making processes and influencing public policies at national and European level, thus strengthening the role of Roma civil society in promoting a more equitable and inclusive society.
